I am leaving for Spain in just 6 short days. I am starting to feel a little unprepared and overwhelmed! Today I packed up everything and weighed my bag. Unfortunately it weighs nearly 16 pounds even without the sleeping bag and electrical adapter that my friend is bringing me when we meet in Madrid.

I want to break down what I am bringing so that you can let me know if there is anything you think is unnecessary. Along those lines, is there anything important that I’m missing? I was feeling pretty good about what I was packing, but it’s still too heavy….

Clothes: I am bringing a long pair of athletic pants, a pair of athletic capris, and one pair of long yoga pants for pajamas. I am also a little concerned that the capris won’t be warm enough, so my plan is to wear the yoga pants over the capris if needed. I am also bringing two pairs of underwear, three pairs of wool socks, two sports bras, two wicking t-shirts, one long-sleeved base layer, a lightweight fleece, and one cotton t-shirt for pajamas/evening.

Misc: Travel pillow, inflatable pillow (I like to sleep with a pillow between my knees), compact bath towel, rain pants, rain jacket, flip flops, sleeping bag liner, headlamp.

In this picture we have lightweight walking sticks, misc toiletries (nothing full-sized), a compact backpack so I have something to keep my valuables in when I am out for dinner, a flash charger, power cord for my iPhone, fanny pack (yes, you can make fun of me), a hat, eye mask, misc foot care items, two headbands/buffs, rain cover for my bag, sea sickness bands for the bus/plane, PowerGel supplements, and a lock.

My big splurge is on a second pair of shoes. They weigh roughly 1 pound,but I think they will be very valuable when my feet get tired of my hiking boots.

The bag is not full by any means. The walking sticks are inside the bag in this picture so it makes it taller.

I am really at a loss as to how I can reduce the weight. Do you have any ideas? I’d love to hear about your experiences!
